About Our Roasts

You'll see the roast level next to each coffee. These are to be used as a rough guide, as each coffee is roasted to a level specific to that coffee.

LightOur "light roasts" are roasted for a shorter amount of time giving them a milder flavor.

MediumOur "medium roasts" tend to have a fine balance of taste and complexity.

DarkOur "dark roasts" are roasted the longest and feature well developed rich flavors.

Single Origin Coffees

Brazil Mogiana – Our elegant new Brazil comes to us from the Mogiana growing region, near the cities of Ribeirao Preto and Sertaozinho to the north of Sao Paulo. This is a "natural" (or "dry-processed") coffee, meaning that the coffee is sun dried in the fruit, with the skin removed after the moisture content reaches the optimum level. In the cup, this is a very clean coffee, with a buttery, round body and a sweet, nutty flavor. It works beautifully prepared as a drip coffee or as a single origin espresso. Roasted light-medium.

Guatemala Huehuetenango Highland Presidium – The Huehuetenango Highland Coffee Presidium was created with the help of Slow Food International. The Slow Food movement aims to support small-scale producers who preserve crop varieties, agricultural practices, and food traditions. A Presidium is a local project with a goal to find a viable future for small scale producers of regional, artisanal food. Today, this Presidium represents 4 cooperatives and consists of approximately 150 small growers in two different communities: La Libertad and Todos Santos.Members of the presidium must have farms over 1500 meters and be committed to the principles of Slow Food. The Presidium works to protect both the health of the local environment and the well-being of the producers and their families. In addition, the Presidium provides educational workshops and technical training to producers in order to improve the quality of the coffee. This is our most popular single origin coffee, offering an easy drinking, medium roast with a chocolate backbone and mild citrus highlights.

Papua New Guinea Kimel Estate - We’ve taken the opportunity presented by yet another shortage of Sumatra to offer this very nice coffee from Papua New Guinea as our current offering from the Indonesian growing region. This high grown coffee from the Kimel Plantation comes to us from a farm cooperative owned collectively by the Opais peoples of the Wahgi Valley in the western mountains of the country. In contrast to the wet-hulled processing of Sumatras, this coffee is traditionally wet-processed, resulting in a clean cup of meticulous quality. In the cup, you’ll experience a syrupy body with highlights of a delicious combination of cherries and dark chocolate. It's also very nice as a single origin espresso.

Tanzanian Peaberry - Ruvuma - We have been waiting patiently for a good Tanzania to come our way, and we are now proud to offer this delicious peaberry from smallholder farms in the Ruvuma growing region in southern Tanzania. The cup begins with a nice citric acidity, and a milk chocolate body gives way to a finish of berry and peach notes. We love this coffee, and we roast it medium to preserve the complex flavors.

Sumatra Tiger Decaf - This is a Mountain Water Process decaffeinated version of our Sumatra Harimau Tiger. A really awesome coffee for a decaf, and works nicely as a single origin espresso. Roasted medium.

Signature Blends

Indo-limbo French Roast – Roasted at a slightly lower level than many French Roasts, Indo Limbo is brought to a degree of heat that results in a sweet, rich coffee with the intense caramelized flavors that French Roast lovers crave, but without sacrificing the flavors of the base coffees.

Espresso Nirvana - Espresso Nirvana is a blend fashioned after the Northern Italian style espressos that are roasted lighter than their Southern counterparts, with the goal of letting the flavors of the base coffees shine through. Ours is a combination of dry-processed Brazil, Indonesian and Ethiopian coffees refined to show depth and richness in the cup, with superior crema and enough power to stand up to properly proportioned cappuccinos and lattes. We also enjoy this prepared as a drip or French Press.

Road Trip! – If the truth be told, we stole the name for this coffee from John Belushi's famous line in Animal House, where his proposal of a Road Trip! was the response to a bad day with Dean Wormer. This coffee celebrates the allure of the open road, the promise of adventure, journeys without destinations and the glory of exotic lands. It is all those things in the cup, celebrating multidimensional waves of sensory enjoyment, tempered by nuanced, charismatic notes of citrus, fine wine, Belgian beer and tropical produce. It is sun on skin after a long winter, the first jolt of flavor from a killer gelato, a kiss from a loved one and the wonderful depths of a great novel. It is harmony. Sublime music. Warm, salty water. It is passion and paradise. All in one cup. Not really. But its a great cup of coffee with origins as the house blend at The Royal Bean. Roasted very slightly dark.
